Julia has orchestrated scores for numerous blockbuster feature films along with her composing work in independent film and video games. Upcoming projects for Julia include the feature film RADIO MAN, currently in post-production.
"It was a true pleasure having Julia on my team. Not only is she a gifted and versatile composer, but her skills as an orchestrator are also very impressive. Her charismatic personality and her professionalism will delight those who work with her. I sincerely believe she will go far in this business."
~ James Newton Howard, 7 Time Oscar Nominated Composer (Dark Knight, Michael Clayton, King Kong)
Julia Newmann, along with with three-time Emmy award winning composer Sean Callery ("24", "Medium" "Homeland"), is scoring her fourth season of Fox's hit TV series "Bones." Recently, "Bones" was nominated for 'Best Television Score' by the Hollywood Music in Media Awards.
Before embarking on television, Julia worked for multi Oscar nominated film composer, James Newton Howard. During her time at JNH Studios, she helped orchestrate Oscar nominated score "Michael Clayton," as well as orchestrating on his scores "The Water Horse: Legends of the Deep" and "The Great Debaters."
Julia will also be starting an exciting new feature documentary, "Radio Man." "Radio Man" is about a former homeless man in New York City who has gained notoriety by making cameo appearances in major films and TV shows such as "The Departed" and "30 Rock." The documentary is about his life and his working relationships with such A-list actors and directors as George Clooney, Helen Mirren, Tina Fey, Whoopi Goldberg, Matt Damon, Meryl Streep, Ron Howard, and Martin Scorsese.
Some other highlighted composing credits include feature theatrical release-"Freedom Park," indie horror feature, "Tumbling After," MGA Entertainment's DVD game- "The $100,000 Pyramid," and Cirque Mechanic's theatrical circus- "The Birdhouse Factory." This production has gone on Broadway and toured around the US, Canada and Europe.
Julia has won awards and special recognition for her music. In 2005 Julia was a semi-finalist in the Turner Classic Movies Young Film Composer's Competition. While participating in USC's Film Scoring Program, she was awarded the BMI Award in Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television. Shortly after graduation from the program she was a selected participant of the acclaimed ASCAP Film Scoring Workshop. She has also won awards for her concert music-in 2001 her choral piece, "Where Once the Waters of Your Face" was awarded 2nd place in the National Composer's Guild Composition Contest. In 1999 her piece "A Night Without Armor" received honorable mention from the same competition.
Julia is a graduate of University of Southern California Thornton School of Music. She earned her Bachelors of Music in music composition and double majored in USC's acclaimed Film Scoring Masters Program as an undergraduate. While at USC she met her composer husband Cody Westheimer. Cody and Julia have successfully collaborated on numerous projects and have formed their own music production company, "New West Studios Inc." Julia and Cody recently co-scored Showtime feature documentary, "Tapestries of Hope."
Multi-talented Julia Newmann is also a visual artist. She utilizes her artistic skills to emphasize her keen dramatic sense. Already painting at the young age of eight, Julia started composing music about her paintings, and her music influenced her paintings as well. Film scoring was a natural career choice for her as it the union of her visual and musical story-telling mind.
Julia is also a classically trained pianist and has expanded her musical horizons to singing and orchestrating.

Julia Newmann
juliamarienewmann@yahoo.com
"Julia Newmann is a superb and gifted composer--one can hear her love for music in each and every moment. She is also that rare breed of composer who continues to master different musical styles and genres, evolving and growing each and every time. These are the qualities of any great artist. She is the real deal."
- Sean Callery, 3 Time Emmy Award Winning Composer of BONES, 24, MEDIUM, HOMELAND
"Julia is easy to communicate with and brings an ability to elevate a project musically with a keen sense of mood and instrumentation that fits the feel that you want. For a director who doesn’t know the "language of music composers" it was very easy to explain what I wanted and get the desired result. She handled comedy and drama in the same score and it really helped make the scenes work."
- Ari Sandel, Academy Award Winning Director for Best Short Film,, WEST BANK STORY
"Julia Newmann is one of the brightest new composing talents on the horizon. One can expect to hear great things from this inventive young composer"
- Robert Kraft, President of Fox Music
"Working with Julia Newmann has been an absolute delight from start to finish. She has been professional, flexible, collaborative, easy to work with, and hit deadlines like a champ. And she must be kind of telepathic, because she knew exactly what we wanted sometimes even before we did. Always quick to implement our notes, but always ready with her own ideas and inventive solutions to problems, she quickly became not just a gun-for-hire, but a collaborator in our film. We can't wait to work with her again."
- Yuri Lowenthal and Tara Platt, Directors of, TUMBLING AFTER
"With patience and sensitivity, Julia engages with the goals of the picture to create a rich and meaningful score. Her insight allows her to reach into subtext and draw out creative solutions to the composition of a moment."
- Meredyth Wilson, Writer/Director, BlACK PLUM and SHUGAR SHANK
"Julia has a great and varied command of different genres and orchestral colors. Bravo and keep on writing!!!"
- Brad Dechter, Orchestrator THE DARK KNIGHT, SIN CITY, SUPER 8
"In addition to being a wonderful composer, Julia does great music preparation work. She prepared a lot of music for me very quickly, and did it with precision and a lovely attitude. When the players comment on how beautiful and clear the parts are, it's a great comfort - it's one less thing to worry about when conducting a session."
- Zack Ryan, Composer , MERRY DAUGHTER OF THE BRIDE
